My coaching is based on a unique combination of official qualifications, personal research and lived experience.
I believe running should be simple, sustainable and joyful.
I’m approachable, knowledgable and want to encourage more people to get what they wasn't out of running. If that sounds like a good fit, please get in touch.
The decision to get a coach or to switch coach is a huge one, but it’s only the first step. Then you’ve got to work out who you want to be coached by and with so many options out there it can be hard to identify who is going to be a good fit. So, why me?
-
I’m CiRF and UESCA qualified. These are the two main certifications available to running coaches. It is unusual to hold both, but I knew I wanted as comprehensive training as possible.
-
I’m a Mountain Leader with specific running guiding experience. I equip people with movement skills, technical knowledge and the confidence to take on challenges.
-
I’m a teacher by trade. I am used to adapting to different learning styles and explaining things clearly. Choose me if you want a coach you can ask questions and learn from.
-
I coached myself to international competition. My first race wins, Scotland vests, world championships, GB team selection and sponsorships all happened whilst I was self-coached.
-
I have also been coached. I know what it is like to be the athlete in the relationship and the difference a good coach can make.
-
My success didn’t happen over night. Whilst natural talent played an important role, it wasn’t the key to my success. I spent years as a mid-pack runner motivated only by the love of the sport. I understand that achieving goals takes time and will help you to do this sustainably.
-
I’ll help you to cut through the noise. Running is booming and everyone wants a piece of the pie; the internet is full of nutrition tips, opposing training methods, ‘essential’ gadgetry, podcasts, and unqualified opinions. I’ll remind you what is actually important.
-
I can help you whatever your history, chosen discipline, preferred distance, level and whether you choose to race or not. I can do this because I am both highly trained and have a wealth of experience.
Why 'Cailleach'?
The Cailleach is a figure from Scottish mythology. She is an old woman who cares for wildlife, controls the winter storms and created Scotland's mountains. She is strong, determined and powerful.
I named my coaching company 'Cailleach Coaching' because the Cailleach seemed the perfect role model. She defies expectations of womanhood and is at one with the landscape.
This brief summary barely scratches the surface of the Cailleach's story, however, you can read a more detailed explanation of why I chose the name below.
